Reconnaissance drones equipped with advanced cameras and thermal imaging began flying over areas blocked by thick grey sludge. They map out altered riverbanks, locate collapsed structures, and even help pinpoint where bodies or survivors might be trapped under the debris. In some grim instances, drone teams have even had to assist in transporting the remains of victims out of zones that ground crews couldn't safely navigate.

Contract drone pilot Santosh Budhathoki noted that because helicopters are entirely consumed by pulling survivors out of hydropower tunnels and remote pockets, drones fill a massive void for basic survival supplies. Without them, communities separated by a few miles of broken gorge would remain completely isolated for weeks.
